About us
Newscool™,
Inc., maker of BUX, is a small, new game company located in south west New Hampshire. Together we have more than 60 years of experience making complicated ideas into fun and exciting products that everyone can enjoy. Our major clients are Parker Brothers, Milton-Bradley, Hasbro and other major, worldwide manufacturers.
We believe that todays' games must be fun and useful. So we have reduced this economics mish-mash to a simple game of playing with your own personal economics. Personal economics isn't "The economics" you hear about. It is your own economics as it applies to your life. It's about you and your experiences with money.
BUX, our first product as a company, is an original card game which highlights in a realistic way,
the feeling, fun and excitement of using ones resources as efficiently as possible.
The game's inventors are two game industry veterans and New Hampshire residents, Charles Phillips
and Sam Kjellman.
Phillips, Newscool's president, a professional
mechanical engineer and game inventor, formerly worked as an aerospace student-engineer
at Douglas Aircraft
(Missile and Space Systems Division, Santa Monica, California),
an "experimental" mechanical engineer with the Ford Motor Company
(Dearborn, Michigan), a toy and game inventor with Ned Strongin
Associates (a past major supplier of invented toys and games to the industry), and the Ideal Toy Company's "517" internal
inventing group. [George Willig, friend and climber of the World Trade Center also worked in 517 at the time.] From an early age, seeing his older brother
make
playthings, Phillips learned that he too could make "things from his imagination".
Focusing on games, he invented such products as: "I Vant
To Bite Your Finger" (Hasbro), Advance To Boardwalk (Parker
Brothers), Clue Jr. Detective (Parker Brothers), Castle Risk
(Parker
Brothers), Boggle Bowl (Parker Brothers), Whoozit? (Trivia, Inc.),
Free Parking (Parker Brothers), Vegas Nites Casino Card Series
(International Games), Oh Bleep! (ARC), Rollercoaster (Parker
Brothers), Super Yatzi (FX Schmid, Germany), Mystery Cards (FX
Schmid, Germany), FITS (Ravensburger, Germany), Shapes Up (Educational
Insights), Tripoley Dice (Cadaco), and most recently, M.A.G.S. (Hasbro)- a hand-held electronic game which played to the beat of the players' music.
His most recent project is a cell phone game that "10 million" people can play at the same time, against each other.
Sam Kjellman is
a product designer-developer with a keen interest in many areas of knowledge, including economic
theory. His expertise includes product design and development. His past work experiences include designing automotive
products for the Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan), designing
home appliances, and toys and games, including computer and video
games for Parker Brothers. Sam has collaborated with Newscool,
Inc. / New England R & D over the past 10 years on a number
of toy and game inventions including the latest product, BUX.
Kjellman is an expert with-, and teaches Pro/Engineer 3D CAD software applications for 3D modeling and product
development. In addition to games, Sam is currently involved
in
two projects: developing a passive heat storage system using solar energy, and designing high-efficiency, active, water distillation products.
